Synopsis
Fabric shop owner Polyester Monroe is back in business—this time getting wrapped up in a diabolical but crafty case of murder.
Fabric shop owner Polyester Monroe is back in business—this time getting wrapped up in a diabolical but crafty case of murder.
With opening day of Material Girl approaching, Poly is stocking up on lush fabrics, colorful notions, and best of all, a proprietary weave of velvet. But upon delivery, it’s not quite the blend she expected, being ninety-percent silk and ten-percent corpse. Crushed under a dozen bolts of fabric is Phil Girard. His wife, Genevieve, local tea shop owner and close friend of Poly, is the prime suspect.
Granted, Phil may not have been the perfect husband, but surely Genevieve had no reason to kill him! There’s just the small matter of Genevieve’s own incriminating confession: I’m afraid I killed my husband. Now, as Material Girl’s grand opening looms, Poly is torn between a friendship pulling apart at the seams—and finding a smooth killer with a velvet touch…

My Review:
This story had me hooked from the first page, I couldn't put it down. It 's a cozy mystery fun, engaging, full of twists, the plot and the mystery are well developed and the characters are really cute.
Polyester is going to reopen the textile shop she inherited from her great uncle: it's been closed for a long time but has now been restored and ready for a new life. The store is in the same street of the tea shop of her friend Genevieve. For the grand opening she has decided to order a particular tissue from Los Angeles, Phil, Geneveive's husband, offers to take it, he must go there to purchase for their shop. But when she open the van to download her tissue finds the body of Phil: he's died. His wife is the main suspect and she is disappeared. Poly immediately begins to investigate to find the real murderess.
The story takes place in the small community of San Ladròn. The inhabitants are a bit hostile towards strangers, it's hard to get into their circles. But some of them are really funny as Charlie.
It's the second book in the series "Material Witness mysteries" but can be read as a stand alone: I have not read the first one and I have not had any trouble.
I recommend it to those who love cozy mystery.
