When chefs Charly and Cliff Harding divorce, she gets custody of their upscale restaurant and its namesake, Felix, the cat. He gets custody of their dog, Oscar. What they both still have custody of is each other’s heart. But they seem to be the only two people in the small ski resort town of Snow Lake, Nevada, that don’t know it. When Cliff opens his own restaurant in direct competition with Charly, bad things start to happen. Death threats, accidents, and murder are now on the menu. Their ‘if-you-can’t-take-the-heat-then-get-out-of-the-kitchen’ battles are backfiring, and regrets consume the two of them. But can they find their way back to each other? Or is it too late? Because they just might spend the rest of their lives in prison unjustly accused of killing someone. Or can love triumph over even murder?
My Review

The author is very good at capturing the reader's attention from the first few pages: the narrative point of view changes with each chapter, there is a lot of suspense and romance.
Charly and her husband Cliff are two excellent chefs, they run a  restaurant Felix named  as their cat and he also does a TV show. But Charly has decided to divorce. She got the complete management of their local and the entrusting of their cat while Oscar, the dog is entrusted to him. But love between them is still alive, they just have to find a way to make it resurface. In the meantime they are engaged in a war to be the best Snow Lake's chef and manage the consequences of all this.
I loved all the characters. Charly is sunny, patient, generous and with a strong sense of humor but also a little insecure. She loves cooking, cats and dogs. Cliff is a charming but very egocentric and demanding man. Secondary characters like Bernie and Julia, Cliff's sister, are also well developed and important.
An intriguing and well-developed storyline, a fast pace thanks to very short sentences, brilliant dialogues, complex characters and a really welcoming and fascinating setting, how can you not love this book?
I'm really curious to read Charly's upcoming adventures.

Review & Giveaway: Crypt Suzette by Maya Corrigan

Crypt Suzette

(A Five-Ingredient Mystery)

by Maya Corrigan

About the Book

Cozy Mystery
6th in Series
Kensington (August 27, 2019)
Mass Market Paperback: 304 pages
ISBN-10: 1496722426
ISBN-13: 978-1496722423
Digital ASIN: B07L2GDD8H

Val Deniston is catering the debut of Bayport’s newest bookstore—but the death of a customer is about to draw her into a real-life murder mystery …
Suzette Cripps has been occupying a spare bedroom at Val’s granddad’s house while she takes classes in this Maryland Eastern Shore town—but she’s always seemed a little secretive and fearful, and any talk about her past is a closed book.
After winning the costume contest at the Halloween-themed bookstore party, Suzette is mowed down by a hit-and-run driver—and Val and her grandfather start to wonder whether it was really an accident or if someone was after Suzette. Granddad is a little distracted by his new enterprise as a ghost-buster, but as Val talks to Suzette’s coworkers and fellow creative writing students, she grows more convinced that the dead woman’s demons weren’t imaginary—and that she needs to rip the mask off a killer …
Includes delicious five-ingredient recipes!
My Review

This cozy mystery is addictive and a total page turner, with suspense, twists and turns, lots of funny scenes and even a bit of romance.
It is set during Halloween. Val and her grandfather Don have several cases to solve, the main one is the death of Suzette, a girl who rented a room from Val's grandfather. She was killed after winning a costume race. At first it seems to have been an accident  but Val discovers that she was afraid, maybe she had discovered something terrible that cost her her life.
The characters are believable and engaging. One of the things that I really loved about this book was Val's wonderful relationship with her grandfather, mine was like that and I miss him so much. Don is an adorable and very eccentric character with so many hats.
This is the sixth book in Maya Corrigan’s Five-Ingredient  Mysteries series and even though I haven't read the previous books, the author provided enough background information that I had no problem jumping right into it. It so well written and now I have to find time to go back to the beginning and read this series from the start.
I was once again pulled into a story that was so completely captivating I couldn't put it down. Well written, fast paced with vivid descriptions, engaging characters and a intriguing storyline. A valuable addition to this book are the included recipes
I have no hesitation in recommending it highly.

Review&Giveaway: Stir Up by Annabelle Hunter

Stir Up

(Lark Davis Mysteries)

by Annabelle Hunter

About the Book

Cozy Mystery
2nd in Series
Independently Published (July 1, 2019)
Print Length: 178 page
Digital ASIN: B07SGH94K4

Peace and quiet is underrated.
After her last brush with murder, Larklyn Davis is relieved to be spending her time with the talented new horse at her stables instead of tripping over body parts. While she’s trying to figure out why her newest horse has lost his mojo, she’s also puzzling over her relationship with the brooding, uncommunicative Detective Brecken Wilson.
But then, disaster strikes, and both Lark’s reputation and business are on the line. Once again she finds herself pulled into a murder case and in close proximity to the handsome Detective. Throw in a dashing veterinarian plus a matchmaking town and Lark’s life spins out of control. As clues pile up and all evidence leads back to her barn, Lark gets saddled up to solve another mystery.
Who knew life in Barrow Bay would stir up so much trouble?
My Review
It was a compelling and entertaining read with an intriguing mystery and a little romance.
Lark has a new horse in her stable and has heart problems. Unfortunately the horse that she trains dies of colic and she approaches to the veterinarian away from the detective animating the Barrow Bay gossip. They will accuse her of poisoning the horse but she will investigate to find the culprit and save her reputation.
Lark is a normal woman who loves horses, very uncertain about her love life. She often finds herself in bizarre and funny situations. I also loved the crazy Barrow Bay, a small town where gossip is the main hobby.
Although it is the second book in the series you can read it as standalone, I had no problems but I am very curious to read Lark's first adventure.
The story is very well written, with a constant pace and lots of funny scenes

Review & Giveaway: BLIND SIGHT by Tanya R. Taylor

BLIND SIGHT

(Lucille Pfiffer Mystery Series)

by Tanya R. Taylor

About the Book

Cozy Mystery
1st in Series
Self Published (July 28, 2019)
Number of Pages: 200
Digital ASIN: B07RVF7W99
Lucille Pfiffer sees, but not with her eyes. She lives with her beloved dog Vanilla ("Nilla" for short) in a cozy neighborhood that is quite "active" due to what occurred in the distant past. Though totally blind, she plays an integral role in helping to solve pressing and puzzling mysteries, one right after the other, which, without her, might remain unsolved. The question is: How can she do any of that with such a handicap?
My Review
It is a particular and original story, with an unusual protagonist, a blind lady of almost seventy.
Lucille Pfiffer is a blind woman but has developed a gift that allows her to see better than with her eyes. She decides to organize a party with the neighborhood to celebrate what would have been her fiftieth wedding anniversary. An invited guest dies and Lucille and her dog Nilla will investigate
Lucille is an extraordinary character,  willing to help everyone
It's a quick read, with many twists and a little paranormal. I appreciated that the story is narrated in the first person and is able to fully enter into harmony with the protagonist
Great debut for this new series, I look forward to reading a new Lucille adventure
Highly recommended

Shell and her two furry sidekicks must cat-ch a killer to save their pet shop
Crishell "Shell" McMillan sees the cancellation of her TV series as a blessing in disguise. The former actress can now take over her late aunt's pet shop, the Purr N' Bark, and do something she loves.
While getting the shop ready for re-opening, Shell is asked to loan her aunt's Cary Grant posters to the local museum for an exhibit. She finds the prospect exciting—until a museum board member, who had a long-standing feud with Shell's aunt, votes against it. When she discovers the board member dead in the museum, Shell becomes suspect number one. Can she, her Siamese cat Kahlua, and her new sidekick—her aunt's Persian Purrday—find the real culprit, or will her latest career go up in kitty litter?
My Review
Each time this author is a pleasant discovery, all her books are compelling and with lovely characters.
Shell is a young actress who left Hollywood to run the pet store inherited from her aunt in Connecticut. She loves animals and wants a quieter and more relaxed life. But it will not be like this she will solve a complicated mystery. It seems strange that the council of the local museum doesn't want to expose her aunt's memorabilia on Cary Grant. When one of the members is murdered she understands that she was right and begins to investigate.
The characters are well developed. Shell is a nice, caring, intelligent woman. Very funny is Gary, a former co-star who visits her and helps her with the investigations. Adorable the two protagonist cats, they will help Shell solve the mystery.
The story is very well written, fluid and flowing, there are many clues and some twists and even a little romance.
Great debut for this new series, I can't wait to read a new episode
For those who love cats and cozy mysteries it is absolutely not to be missed.

Review: Risky Biscuits by Mary Lee Ashford

Risky Biscuits

(A Sugar & Spice Mystery)

by Mary Lee Ashford

About the Book

Cozy Mystery
2nd in Series
Setting - Iowa
Lyrical Underground (July 9, 2019)
Paperback: 190 pages
ISBN-10: 1516105079
ISBN-13: 978-1516105076
Digital ASIN: B07JDXFM7G

Former magazine editor “Sugar” Calloway’s life has taken a delicious twist since she launched a community cookbook publishing business with blue-ribbon baker Dixie Spicer. Now these amateur sleuths must solve a small-town murder—without getting burned . .
Sugar and Spice Cookbooks’ newest project is a fundraiser organized by the St. Ignatius Crack of Dawn Breakfast Club, famous for their all-you-can-eat biscuits and gravy events. But when a group member is found dead, Sugar and Spice’s priorities change from raising dough to figuring out who put murder on the menu.
The return of former badboy Nick Marchant has stirred the town’s gossips too. Add a few grudges and some old-fashioned greed over a land deal into the mix, and it’s a recipe for mayhem. And when someone serves up a second helping of murder, Sugar and Spice need to sift the guilty from the blameless, or their next breakfast may be their last . . .
* Includes delicious recipes! *
My Review
It was so good and so funny, full of humor and with many tasty recipes, a must try.
Sugar and Dixie run a publishing house that publishes cookbooks but their main business is solving homicides. In fact they are often found in the midst of some trouble. This time they have to help their elderly neighbor, she has disappeared suddenly and the police seem to underestimate it.
I love all the characters but Sugar is really nice and very nosy. St. Ignatius is a small, very welcoming community, where everyone lends a hand but is also full of gossip.
It is very well written and manages to capture the reader's attention to solve the mystery. The plot is interesting, well developed, with many twists.
It  can be read  as a standalone, I can't wait to read the first book in the series

Highly recommended for those who love cozy culinary mysteries
