Review
This historical novel is really well done, captures you from the first page: there are many sad and gory moments, but is also full of hope and tears a smile. It is set during the Civil War. Emma is a 16 year old girl grew up on a rice plantation of South Carolina. She's very attached to their slaves, and helps them to study and escape to the North. When she is discovered is brutally beaten and the guy who was helping is killed. Shortly after Civil War broke out and she decides to escape to Washington Dc pretend to be a boy and join the North to defeat slavery. She is taken in the hospital, being frail physique.
The characters are very real and are also well-developed secondary characters. Emma is a strong courageous girl, who knows how fight for her ideals. She will address the difficulties but will grow and find herself in the strength to face them. It 's a book that teaches you to fight for what you believe in and never give up.
It 's an interesting historical novel, really read from cover to cover, especially the ending is truly exciting. It's 'recommended for those who love historical novels
