Thirty-Two Going on Spinster by Becky Monson

Julia Dorning is a spinster, or at least on the road to becoming one. She has no social life, hates her job, and lives in her parent’s basement with her cat, Charlie.
With the arrival of Jared Moody, the new hire at work, Julia’s mundane life is suddenly turned upside down. Her instant (and totally ridiculous) crush on the new guy causes Julia to finally make some long-overdue changes, in hopes to find a life that includes more than baking and hanging out with Charlie.
But when the biggest and most unexpected change comes, will the new and improved Julia be able to overcome it? Or will she go back to her spinster ways?

Praise for Thirty-Two Going on... Spinster

"Oh my, oh my. I have just finished wiping the tears of laughter from my eyes. This is seriously funny." ~Julie Darley (Never judge a Book by its Movie) "This was a refreshing change of pace for me to read. Some good clean romance was found in it’s pages and that is a rare find these days. It was some great chick-lit. I would not have thought this was Becky’s debut book, it was so well done." ~Liberty Ann (SnifferWalkBooks)

  My review

It 's a very funny book and that makes you laugh. The heroine is a spinster of 32 years, for 10 years has a job she does not like and she lives in the basement of her parents' house. The sister and mother understand that she has to go out of the house but she feels that can not do it. Hoping for a promotion at work but is blown by a newcomer Jared, a great guy.
The characters are very well characterized and fun. The main character is great: is a clumsy and immature woman who finds herself often in very embarrassing situations (a kind of Bridget Jones). Another fun character is Brown, Julia's friend and colleague: is the office gossip and tries to get out of her predicament spinster especially when she discovers that  is attracted to Jared. Jared is adorable especially how he reacts to embarrassing situations for Julia
It 's very well written, with a particular humor and sliding between a laugh and the other, pages run off without difficulty.
If you love chick lit and funny books this is a must read

Excerpt:

I couldn’t wait to get these tights off, not to mention the heels. I was getting some major blisters and my feet were killing me, but those would have to wait until I made it home. Opting for the far bathroom to avoid the mile-long line at the nearby one, I continued down the halls until they had significantly thinned out.
It was a relief when I finally made it. I pushed the door open and stepped inside. I momentarily relaxed as I hastily took off my tights and replaced my shoes. The ragamuffin look wasn’t really in style and I was glad to get rid of my ripped tights.
Shifting quickly, I spared a glance in the mirror only to find my eyeliner smudged. I definitely had the goth look going on. With a paper towel, I carefully wiped the smears away until I looked normal again. I tossed the rag in the trash and my hand found the door handle.
Just as I was about to leave, I heard a very inappropriate moan. Ugh, some people had no class. Sex in a high school bathroom was disgusting. Just thinking about all the germs and STDs that could be acquired grossed me out.
Not wanting to know who it was, I headed to the door so I could slip out as quickly as possible.
I was so close to escaping unscathed. That was, until I heard a familiar voice urging the girl on. At first, I froze, stunned. It couldn’t be; it just couldn’t. At that moment I suddenly didn’t care if I was interrupting hot sex.

As the past and present collide, Myra finally stands up for herself and begins a journey she may regret.

Praise for Life on Hold

All I can say is wow! Beverly Stowe McClure knocked this one out of the ballpark. The story of Myra and her search for the truth touched upon one of the fundamental needs of all children (and teens): the need for a father in their lives. Darby Karchut, author of the Griffin Series and other books for tweens, teens, and adults.
McClure exhibits rare talent in this story which follows a young girl on her journey to discovery as she struggles to be true to herself in this compelling coming-of-age novel. Children’s Literary Classics Book Reviews (Silver Medal Winner 2012)
Teen readers can easily relate to Myra's pain and rebellion. Part coming of age, part teen romance, "Life on Hold" is full of surprises. Peggy Tibbetts, author, editor, and associate producer.

As we drove to my house, I gazed out the car window. The moon, hazy around the edges, hung in the sky. Stars smiled down. The evening with Jeremy had been fun, like before his trouble, before KW, before I defied my mother. I tried to hold the happiness of the past hours in my mind, but a sour lump clogged my throat. Shivering, I rubbed my arms. I was as bad as Rachel, thinking only of myself, unconcerned about my mother’s feelings, ignoring the fact she’d worry if she got home before I did. “You want me to turn off the air conditioner?” Jeremy’s voice startled me. My thoughts had wandered. Lately, the past kept intruding in my life, making it difficult to concentrate on the present. I looked at Jeremy, who was looking at me, a thin wrinkle between his eyes. “What?” “You’ve got goose bumps.” I stared at my arms. Tiny bumps dotted them, yet sweat dampened my palms. “I’m okay,” I said, as okay as I could be, considering I’d hung up on my mother, considering I was with Jeremy. On the plus side, I was enjoying myself, except for the unwelcome phantom face haunting me every time I blinked ¾ KW. He would not go away. I wanted Dad to be my dad. He wasn’t, at least not my birth-dad. Since he wasn’t really my dad should I keep calling him Dad? Father? Or was Neil better? What about Stepfather? Why was it so hard to make decisions?

GARRET
Garret by Allie Everhart
Publication date: September 19th 2014
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Synopsis:

This full-length novel is Garret’s point of view from CHOOSING YOU (The Jade Series #1).

My life is nothing but rules. Rules for how I act. How I dress. Who I date. Who my friends are. I hate the rules and yet I keep following them. Until I met Jade. Being with her is forbidden. She’s not one of us. She’s not allowed in my world. But I don’t care. She’s different and I like her and I want her. And the fact that she wants nothing to do with me makes me want her even more.

But my father won’t allow it. Neither will the people around me. Being with Jade means making deals, blackmail, bribes–whatever it takes to keep my relationship with her a secret.

Jade has no idea what my life is like. She doesn’t know the rules. She doesn’t know about my family and what they’re involved in. And although I can’t tell her all my secrets, there’s one rule she must know: Never ask questions. It’s a rule that I live by. Because in my world, knowing the answers can get you killed.

Excerpt

As I approach the car, I’m disappointed when the ass I was admiring suddenly turns the opposite direction. I’m left with a view of the tan, athletic legs which are topped with an overstuffed black garbage bag. Small hands move up and down the front of the bag, trying to hold on to it as clothes seep out the bottom onto the ground.
A voice mumbles from behind the giant bag. “Shit, I knew I should’ve got—”
“Can I help?” I go over and pick up three black tank tops from the ground. I offer them to her. “Here, you take these and I’ll take the bag. It looks heavy.”
“I can handle heavy,” she says as she snatches the tank tops from me. She turns around, giving me another glimpse of that cute little ass.
The bag starts to teeter side to side. Despite what she said, she clearly can’t handle that bag. It’s practically twice her size and in about two seconds she’s going to drop it and everything inside it’s going to spill out onto the parking lot.
She knows I’m still there and says, “You can go now. We don’t need any help.”
We?
A guy holding a large box appears next to her. Where the hell did he come from? I didn’t notice him when I walked over here. Is he her boyfriend? Must be, although he looks a few years older than her. He’s kind of got that hipster artist look going with wavy brown hair that hangs down by his chin. But his clothes are just basic khaki shorts and a navy t-shirt, which doesn’t at all fit the artsy types I know who try to make a statement by wearing bold colors or patterns, or t-shirts with the names of bands nobody’s ever heard of.
Artsy Guy notices me and clears his throat. “Um, Jade, why don’t you introduce yourself?”
Jade. That’s an interesting name. I’ve never met someone with that name.
The girl turns around, the bag still blocking her face, and all I can see is a small hand sticking out. “Hi, I’m Jade. Nice to meet you.”
I peer around the bag but it’s so big I can’t even see her face. “I think you’re in there somewhere. You sure you don’t want some help with that bag?”
She doesn’t answer as she struggles to keep hold of it.
This is so strange. What girl doesn’t let a guy hold shit for her? Every girl I’ve ever dated tries to make me hold her shit; her purse, her shopping bags, her sunglasses. I never do, because most girls never ask. They demand. And I don’t do demands.
I watch as the garbage bag sways to the side, the tear on the bottom splitting open even more. I reach under the bag and attempt to take it from her. She reluctantly lets me have it. It’s not that heavy and I’m almost a foot taller than her so I’m easily able to hold it in one arm as I extend my other arm and offer her my hand. “Hi. I’m Garret.”
Now that she’s not hidden by the bag, I can finally see the owner of those legs and that hot ass. And holy shit. She’s beautiful. Her features are small, delicate. I’m instantly drawn to her lips, which are full and the perfect shade of pink even though they’re free of any lipstick. She has dark brown hair that’s almost the exact same color as mine, and she has it in a ponytail with loose strands hanging down around her face and neck.
She’s wearing a white tank top and although I usually try to be more discreet, I can’t help but glance down at her breasts, which are larger than I would expect from someone as tiny as her. As she leans toward me to shake my hand I can see some cleavage and damn, she’s got nice breasts. Combine those with the legs and the ass and shit, she’s so freaking hot it’s causing movement where there shouldn’t be, at least not while standing in a parking lot in front of a girl I just met.
She looks up at me and as soon as I see her eyes, I’m lost. I love green eyes. I always have, but hers are the most gorgeous shade of green I’ve ever seen. They’re surrounded by thick black lashes that aren’t coated in that black clumpy shit girls put on their eyelashes. Her skin is flawless and I notice she’s not wearing any makeup. There’s nothing on her eyes, her lips, her cheeks. It’s not a look I’m used to. Most girls around here wear so much makeup I wouldn’t even recognize them without it. Personally I think girls look ten times better without makeup. This girl definitely looks good without it.
Damn, she’s hot. She’s more than hot. She’s gorgeous. And I don’t toss that word around easily.
The more I look at her, the more I want to keep looking at her. When it comes to girls I never thought I had a type, but I do now. This girl is definitely my type. I don’t know who she is but I have to find out.

CHOOSING YOU

Garret puts his phone away. “Can I come in? I’m kind of a target out here in the hall.”
“A target for what?” I ask, moving aside to let him in.
“Girls fondling me.” A smirk crosses his face as he waits for my reaction.
“Please tell me you’re kidding. Because if you’re not, then I need to start upping the insults again to bring you back down to earth.”
He’s trying hard to keep a straight face. “You saw Ava just now. Girls just can’t help themselves. What can I say?”
I shake my head and start rummaging through my drawer for a shirt. “I can help myself. I’m completely immune to whatever you think you’ve got going on over there.”
“Yeah, I know,” he mumbles. “You need some help?”
“Why? You think I can’t dress myself?”
He stands next to me, staring down at the open drawer. “Everything in here is black.”
“Yeah.” I close the drawer and open the one beneath it. “And everything in here is white.”
“Where are your other shirts?”
“That’s it. Well, I have a few in the closet.”
He walks over to look. “You only wear black or white?”
“Uh, yeah. Are you just getting that? You’ve seen me how many times and you’ve never noticed that?”
“Huh. I guess not.”
“It’s just easier that way. Black and white go with everything.” I take a black t-shirt from the drawer.
“You should wear purple sometime.”
I almost choke laughing. “Purple? Are you joking?”
“What’s wrong with purple?”
“I’ve never worn anything purple in my life. I’ve never even considered it. It’s one of those weird colors that old ladies wear.”
“Lots of people wear purple. And with your green eyes, you would look great in purple.”
“I hate my green eyes. The last thing I want to do is draw attention to them.”
He comes closer and lifts my chin up with his hand. “How could you hate your eyes? They’re the most beautiful eyes I’ve ever seen. Why do you think I’m always staring at them?”
“Yeah, that’s hilarious.” I push him back. “Now get out of here so I can change. Wait in the hall. I’ll be like two seconds.”
“Jade, you know I’m not safe out there.” He says it as if he’s really in danger. “Did you see all those girls running around in towels and robes?”
I roll my eyes. “I swear. The insults are coming, my friend. So tell your ego to get ready.”
He stands there.
“You’re really not leaving? Fine. Then turn around.”
I change into my jeans and black shirt. “Okay, I’m done.”
He inspects me. “Yeah. You definitely need some color. The black and white thing is getting old.”
“Well, I’m not planning on buying new clothes so you’ll have to get over it.” I search through my desk drawer for money. “How much are movie tickets? I haven’t been to a movie in years, so I have no clue. Six bucks? Seven?”
“Don’t worry about it. Let’s go.”
“Garret, you’re not paying.”
“You just saved me from being man-handled by Ava. That’s at least worth the price of a movie ticket. Maybe even some popcorn, too.”

Review
I really like this book. I love Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice in particular: I read the book many times and seen all the movies. As soon as I read the title I could not wait to read it and I was not disappointed. It 's a set in a High School.
Eliza is a very nice high school girl who is forced to choose between the love of three boys. Will, one of these, is the modern Mr Darcy: he's a new boy in school who now sympathizes with Liza.
Very fun the character and the trip to England
It 's a really enjoyable and relaxing reading, very romantic to read for those who love young adult.

Review: Fairy Nuff by Jane Killick

Title:  Fairy Nuff
Author: Jane Killick
Pages:  240
Published:  June 2014
Publisher:  Windtree Press
Source:  Goddess Fish Promotions for Tour

BLURB:

Stuck in a fairy costume with magical powers, Julie “Nuff” Nuffield wishes for anything she wants. But when magic turns mischievous, a dishy doctor literally sweeps her off her feet — with a broom! — and a million pound coins trap her in her house, she must find a way out of the chaos. All while contemplating sleeping with her ex again. Sound unfair for a single woman battling through life? Or is it Fairy Nuff?

A fun story of one woman’s quest for love and search for the right wish to bring her happiness. A light-hearted romantic comedy from the author of If Wishes Were Husbands.

Excerpt:

Julie “Nuff” Nuffield is talking to her struggling actress friend, Eileen, when the pantomime cast arrive, including the man who is playing Prince Charming…

I was only half listening to Eileen because most of my attention was focused on his bum. Something inside of me wanted to go up and take hold of both his buttocks and give them a good squeeze.

‘I think he’s sexy,’ I said.

‘Then you’ve clearly never met him,’ said Eileen. ‘He’s an arse.’

‘That’s the bit I like about him the best,’ I said, imagining what his beautiful bottom must look like without being covered by trousers.

Eileen gave me a stern look. ‘Forget it, Nuffy. He’s ten years younger than you and he treats women like he treats the daily paper — reads the bits he likes, then throws it away before having a new one delivered.’

‘Still…’ I said. And, as I watched him, talking animatedly with his fellow cast, dominating the conversation with exaggerated gestures and his tall stature, an idea was forming. ‘I wish…’ I said.

‘No!’ said Eileen, holding her hands up like a thief caught red-handed. ‘Don’t say it.’

But I knew what I was doing. This time, it wasn’t a slip of the tongue. This time I really meant it. ‘I wish I could go out with Prince Charming,’ I said.

Eileen stared at me in horror. ‘Nuff! What have you done?’

‘I suddenly thought, I’ve been given a gift. Why not have some fun with it?’
