2018 Alphabet Soup Reading Challenge

spoon
Each Letter Counts As 1 Spoonful
Details
This challenge will run from January 1st, 2018 until December 31st, 2018.
You can join anytime. You do not have to post a review of the book. Books can come from any genre.
You do not need to link up each spoonful.
Crossovers to other challenges are allowed and encouraged!
It’s an alphabet challenge!!! The challenge is to read one book that has a title starting with every letter of the alphabet.

Except For those pesky Q, X AND Z titles the word that starts with the challenge letter can be anywhere in the title.

So there are two different ways you can set up your own A-Z Reading Challenge.
A – How I plan to do it: Make a list on your blog from A-Z. Throughout the year, as you go along, add the books you are reading to the list. Towards the end of the year, you can check and see which letters you are missing and find books to fit.
OR
B – Make a list now of 26 books, picking one for each letter of the alphabet. For example: A – Assault and Beret by Jenn McKinlay B- Bookman Dead Style by Paige Shelton  C – Cold Pressed Murder by Kelly Lane   D – Dead Cold Brew by Cleo Coyle etc.
Books can be read in any order and all formats – print – e-book – audio – are acceptable for this challenge!

So how do you decide what state a book is categorized under?

1.  In a fiction read it would be the State or Country that the book spends the most time in.  (Ie. If your main character is from Wisconsin but the book is all about his/her time in college in California – the books should categorize under California….)
2.  Non fiction reads categorize  in whatever State or Country it is about (Ie…. a book about fly fishing in Colorado is a Colorado point, and a book about women in Afghanistan is an Afghanistan point.
3.  If the book goes from one state to another… go with the state that most of the time is spent.
The way you keep track is up to you. I like making the map to visualize where I have been and where I need to go but I also keep a list on Reading Challenges Page. Here is directions on how to create a map. – http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Google-Map. You do not have to just use Google Maps, you can use an map program you choose.

My Progress:

2018 The Backlist Reader Challenge

Dates of Challenge: 1 January, 2018 — 31 December, 2018
Challenge Sign-Up/Details: Click Here
A year-long challenge for all those older books that have been piling up on your TBR pile and list — not just the ones you own, but the ones you’ve been wanting to read for a while now. Social Media: #BacklistReader
My Goal: Complete 50 books

The Rules

The rules are pretty simple. Only (1) and (2) are mandatory.
(1) To count for the challenge, books have to be published before 2017 AND be on your TBR list or pile. In other words, you don’t have to own it. If it’s been on your list to read, and it’s older than 2016, it counts. Library books, books you picked up at a yard sale, books you borrowed from a friend, ebooks, print books, audiobooks — any book counts as long as it fits those two criteria.
(2) Create a goals or sign-up post on your blog or wherever you post your reviews. If you can, please include a link to this post! Then link your sign-up post where you see the “Add your link” button below. (Please link the actual goals/sign-up post, not your home page.)  You can set your own goal, and you can list the books you want to read, or leave it up to your mood at the time — as long as they’re on your TBR list. You can sign up through December 1, 2017; after that, the sign-up link will be closed.
(3) Review the books you read, and post the links on the review linky Actually, you can do the challenge without writing reviews, but the review links are your entries for the year-end giveaway (a $10 gift certificate.)  Reviews don’t have to be long, just a few sentences is fine. You can post them on Goodreads or LibraryThing if you don’t have a blog.
(4) On or after the end of the year, post a wrap-up post to let us know how you did! I’ll create a link-up post for the wrap-up posts, too. Again, this one isn’t absolutely necessary, but I hope you’ll do it anyway, just for the fun of looking back and seeing your accomplishment!

Follow the Clues Mystery Challenge

I love mystery and this challenge seems amazing.

hosted by My Reader's Block

My Reader’s Block is proud to introduce the second year of Follow the Clues Mystery Challenge. Since mysteries are my primary genre, I wanted to develop another mystery challenge that would be more all-encompassing. Unlike the variations of my yearly Vintage Mystery Challenge, this mystery challenge will have no publication date limits. If it’s a mystery–it counts and it does not matter when it was published. Your goal? To follow a set of clues furnished by the mystery books you read to create a body of evidence to support a book court case. Each book clue should lead you to your next read. The connection can be anything at all from author names to motive for murder to type of mystery (police procedural, espionage, romantic thriller, etc) to an item on the cover, but you must be able to make your case to the jury on your detective logic. I would prefer that you not read eight books from the same author and use the author/series character/etc. as the clue link, however.
There are several levels of participation:
Infraction — six books read in a single chain of evidence
Misdemeanor — eight books read in a single chain of evidence
Felony — ten books read in a single chain of evidence
Capital Offence — twelve books in a single chain of evidence
I'm signing up at the Felony Level
