nearly crushed by the stampede he causes. Now Todd is determined to make
amends, for everything.

methods, but even Nora can't deny the importance of his fight to save the wild
horses. With the attraction between them still sizzling and the fate of the
horses in the balance, Nora must decide just how much she's willing to risk.

My Review:
Beautiful landscapes, wonderful animals, a romantic love story: you can not help but love this western romance. It 's a good second chance romance with some interesting ideas for the delicate issue of environmental problems.
Nora and Todd have been together during college. After graduation they have gone separate ways. Nora has returned home to help her brother Wade with his ranch. One night she is suddenly attacked by some wild horses. Who will deliver them? She is shocked when discovers that the culprit is Todd. The passion between them is still very strong but they are ready to get back together? It has been many years and they have changed. And Nora has not yet dealt with some demons from her past that prevent her from to live peacefully her love story. They also have disputes over wild horses. For Nora they are dangerous, can destroy the vegetation and hurt people while Todd loves them and wants to breed them. Will they find a way to resolve their differences?
Nora and Todd are very realistic characters, with whom it is easy to empathize. Nora and her brother Wade were abandoned by their mother, Nora raised him and is helping to build a peaceful future. She's a great lover of nature, generous, strong but in need of much love. Todd is very helpful, patient, the right person to help Nora.
This is the first chance I have had to read anything by Claire McEwen, certainly most it will not be my last. I was pleased to find out that this was the first book in a series. Can not wait for her next book!
This is a wonderfully written contemporary romance which I enjoyed very much. The story flows very well, never boring, there are wonderful descriptions of landscapes so vivid that it is easy to imagine yourself there. The love story is intriguing and sweet, with the right amount of passion.
Highly recommended

EXCERPT:
The sound of metal slamming into metal ripped through the
night again. And her heart slammed against her chest in answer. She froze and
tried to calm herself—a gate must have come open, that’s all. Then a man’s
voice sliced through the night, shouting, “Go!” The command was distinct—and so
was the answering whinny.
Nora felt an instant of gratitude that the intruder was
human—at least she wouldn’t have to take on any coyotes. But the thought was
interrupted by a heavy rumbling sound. Hoofbeats. Hoofbeats accompanied by
shadows, darker than the darkness, thundering down the hill toward her. The
mustangs weren’t in their pens anymore. They were panicked and heading her way.
They’d trample her.
She raced toward a boulder a few yards away and threw
herself in front it. Gravel shredded her skin on impact. She gasped as the
tools in her belt stabbed into her hip and side. The sound of hooves was
deafening, almost on top of her now. She didn’t dare look up, just rolled over
and over until she was against the boulder, wishing fervently that it was a
much larger piece of rock.
Then the horses were everywhere. Flooding around her measly
shelter, so close she could feel the current they created in the air. The
cacophony of their hoof beats eclipsed her scream. She could hear them
breathing and grunting as they swerved to avoid her rock. Pebbles, churned up
by hooves, pelted the bare skin of her arms and legs. She screamed again,
hoping to scare them, to divert their course away from her. But they just kept
coming.
