LOVE SOMEBODY LIKE YOU
Caribou Crossing #6
Susan Fox
Released Sept 29th,2015
Kensington: Zebra
With
its breathtaking terrain and welcoming people, the Western town of Caribou
Crossing is the perfect place for a heart to heal, and
for love to blossom once more…
Since the death of her husband three
years ago, young widow Sally Ryland has kept to herself and focused on her
struggling business, Ryland Riding. Folks assume she’s still grieving, because
Sally has never shared the truth about her abusive marriage, or the trust
issues that remain. But when a sexy rodeo rider from her past turns up for a
visit, he’s a reminder of the feisty woman she once was—and maybe still could
be…
Ben Traynor was always attracted to
Sally, but he didn’t move fast enough. Now what Sally needs is patience and
gentleness. With an injury keeping him from his next rodeo, Ben has the perfect
excuse to stick around and help with her chores—and her healing. And as Sally
finds the courage to face her demons and open her heart again, she’ll have to
decide if what she has with Ben is more than safety, gratitude, and short-term
passion, but a forever love…
“Fox knows how to strike just enough sway between sweet and bitter, homespun and steamy.” --Publishers Weekly
My Review
It 's a novel romantic but also very realistic, able to face with great intelligence and tact a very difficult subject like domestic violence.
Sally has been a widow for three years and is trying to manage on her own a ranch. Her husband left her in debt and with a great fear towards men. He was violent, domineering, she was humiliated and isolated from her family: while everyone thought that she was a happy bride, Sally was undergoing the worst violence. But she is a strong and determined woman and was able to open a valid riding school. She would, however, have need a new assistant and fortunately meets Ben. He's a rodeo cowboy, they know for years and he has always been in love with her. He is injured and can not participate in rodeos, he returned to Caribou Crossing for convalescence and asks Sally to host him. He offers in exchange his help in the management of the ranch. Slowly, with much love and sweetness, he tries to heal her heart into a million pieces.
This is a wonderful story that is very well written with a great pace. The characters are down to earth, and completely lovable. Ben is the man who every woman would have at her side, a friend always available. He is sweet, tender and it is great to see his attempts to warm the terrified heart of Sally. Sally was looking for love and found instead a terrible prison. She suffered so many humiliations that have left her with a great insecurity. Her love for horses has greatly helped to make the first steps towards her rebirth.
This was my first book to read in this series and wow ... I know I will be going back to catch up and read the rest.
I have no hesitation in recommending it highly.
