Synopsis

The first book in the delicious new Emergency Dessert Squad Mystery series from national bestselling author Laura Bradford.
With her rent rising faster than her pie crust, bakery owner Winnie Johnson had hoped to be rescued by an inheritance from her wealthy friend and neighbor Gertrude Redenbacher. Instead all she inherits is the widow’s hostile hissing tabby, Lovey, and a vintage ambulance, restored by Gertrude’s late husband. As her dream crumbles, Winnie makes her final delivery—a peach pie to an elderly widower. But she finds Bart Wagner lying on his kitchen floor, smothered by a pillow.
To comfort her frightened and grieving neighbors, Winnie comes to the rescue with her baked goods—and an idea is born: dessert delivery via her ambulance and a new business called the Emergency Dessert Squad. When she’s not speeding to the scenes of dessert emergencies, Winnie is also racing to track down Bart’s killer—before she needs to call a real ambulance for the next victim…

My Review

This mistey is really fun and delicious, a really enjoyable read from cover to cover. An ironic  and smart protagonist,  an original and well-developed storyline, witty and brilliant dialogues: it's a real treat.
Winnie is over the moon, is about to receive the inheritance that her neighbor Gertrude has left to her. Already dreaming of being rich but actually has inherited only a vintage ambulance that will allow (according to Gertrude) not to walk to work. But she has a brilliant idea, deliver her cakes with the ambulance: emergency sweets directly to your home. During one of her deliveries she finds an old man dead. Winnie is forced to investigate not to retry the pain of losing a dear friend.
The characters are lovable and very realistic, could be the neighbors of each of us. Winnie is a great characters, I loved every moment spent with her. The story is intriguing, keeps you enthralled until the end. There is a perfect blend of romance and mystery.
Great debut for this new series, I look forward to reading the next adventure of Winnie.
Good idea to put the recipes at the end of the book, beautiful cakes to try.
I recommend it to those who love cozy mysteries about food.
