Synopsis:
A LITTLE FAKE RELATIONSHIP NEVER HURT ANYONE . . .
Kate Massie has big dreams-they just haven’t worked out. Yet. In the meantime, she spends her days clerking for a judge and her nights fantasizing about her tall, dark, and sexy gym crush. So when she runs into him one night, she’s shocked to realize he was her shy, nerdy junior-prom date. But that isn’t where the surprises end . . .
James Abell needs a date to his sister’s wedding. So when Kate agrees, he’s relieved . . . until one little lie turns their wedding date into a full-blown fake relationship. Only it doesn’t feel fake-not the toe-curling kisses and definitely not the electricity. Neither of them is looking for something real . . . but they just might fall for their own little white lie.
My Review:
This novel was a truly enjoyable reading: there is romance, humor, family, friendship. The first pages are really hilarious, you get attached quickly to the protagonists and no longer able to leave, I read it in one breath. A false engagement, a wedding, a pushy and overactive mother-in-law how do you not love this story.
Kate has returned to Belmont but her dream is to live in a large city close to her sister, all that remains of her family. Her father died when she was 16 years old and her mother abandoned them when she just was a little children. In the gym she notices a very sexy guy. She doesn't know that he also has noticed her and especially that he was her junior-prom date. James instead recognizes her right away. James's sister is getting married and he doesn't have an escort. Their friend in common proposes a fake engagement. They are both very attracted to each other but are afraid that the other doesn't reciprocate. Will they figure out their real feelings?
All the characters are lovable, people who would like to know. Kate is a sweet girl, so much in need of love and is fascinated by the attention that James has towards her, no one has ever done it. Her life has always been complicated, but maybe it's coming happiness. James is a nice guy, good, helpful. He is also very thoughtful towards his ex-girlfriend if not love her anymore. I loved Greg, James's older brother, is really fun, with his wife form a really wonderful couple. And I enjoyed to see in action the mother of James.
This book is written really well, the pace is fast and flowing. It is written in third person but alternating the James and Kate's point of view: an excellent choice, has made the story much more compelling.
I recommend it to anyone who wants to read a romance light and easy but funny and very romantic
