Review & Giveaway: I’d Rather Wear Pajamas by Chelsea Walker Flagg

I’d Rather Wear Pajamas
by Chelsea Walker Flagg

GENRE: Humor/Memoir

BLURB:

Everybody has the awesome opportunity to find their own strength and path through life. Some come about their self-discoveries through studying and working hard. Others (Chelsea) spend their time nearly burning down kitchens and driving around the country with a car full of hangers.

Chelsea grew up wanting to be “strong.” She thought arguing her way through childhood and becoming a world-class attorney would get her there. But, through a series of humorous, and only slightly embarrassing events, Chelsea comes to realize that maybe her strength is meant to shine in different ways.

My Review:

It 's a sweet story, very funny and full of humor but also touching about the difficulty of finding their own way in life. A big thank you to the author for having decided to share with us her exciting and funny looking for herself, for telling us her  role of daughter, sister, wife and in the end mother.
As the daughter of a rock star, childhood of Chelsea was very happy but the key word of her mother was to be strong. But where to find the strength? We are all different from each other and each has its own way of being strong. The moral of this book is: any road you take, whether it is the right way for you, you will know surely find the strength to go on and fulfill yourself.
Chelsea is a fantastic woman, funny, smart, sensitive, indecisive, insecure. She's especially very realistic, I identified with her often, perhaps because I am Pisces too...
It's a captivating fast-paced book written wonderfully well with a style simple, brilliant, ironic, full of humor. Each page is a real treat. I really liked her family pictures scattered throughout the book.
I recommend this book highly!

EXCERPT:

“FTL’s biggest client was a fabric design company that made nothing but Hawaiian prints. I’m actually pretty sure they no longer make anything, but rather spend good chunks of their time suing other companies who copy their designs. For me, it meant perusing catalogues and clothing websites in search of items with designs similar to this company’s retired fabrics. How great a job is that, by the way? I was getting paid to look for shirts with palm trees and hibiscus flowers on them. This whole law thing was too good to be true.

My best assignment came when FTL caught wind that a men’s underwear line was infringing on our client’s design name. She came by and dropped a stack of male lingerie catalogues (yes, they exist) on my desk to go through in search of this name. I spent the better part of a week looking at pictures at mostly-naked men with socks stuffed in their skivvies.

Nobody knew what to do with me. On one hand, studying oiled-up men in scandalous poses just had to be against any number of company policies. On the other hand, I was legitimately doing work in an effort to make the law firm money, so they couldn’t discourage it. In the end, they just left me alone. And that’s how I learned that you can buy men’s briefs with pre-padded butt cheeks.”

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Chelsea was once obsessed with cats, longed to live in a big city, didn't think she would ever have children, and aspired to be an attorney. She now lives in Boulder, Colorado as a stay-at-home mom and comedic writer with her husband and three daughters. She has no current plans to own a cat.

Do you have any tattoos?  Where? When did you get it/them? Where are they on your body?
Nope, not a single one. I think with some people, it’s surprising to learn they don’t have tattoos, but nobody ever seems to be surprised that I don’t have any. I guess I just ooze Shirley Temple innocence or something.

Is your life anything like it was two years ago?
Two years ago, I had two children. Today, I have three children. Anybody who has had three children knows that my life is nothing like what it was two years ago.

How long have you been writing?
My whole life. I was that nerd in 3rd grade who would ask my teacher on a daily basis if I could stand up in front of the class to read them my newest book. I still have those books I wrote! They’re classics. I went through a good stint of doing professional writing; copyrighting, ghostwriting, company blogging, etc., but am really psyched to be back doing what I really love, which is creative (and comedic) writing.

What advice would you give a new writer just starting out?
Just write! Don’t worry about what you’re writing, just write. The hardest part of writing is getting into the groove of it. As a stay-at-home-mom with three small children and very limited time to do anything outside of life with them, it was really hard for me to sit down and write during my free time. The dumbest part was, it was hard for me because I felt guilty about indulging in my writing over a quiet cup of coffee instead of running errands or something. Once I told myself that writing was my job and that I needed to do it, it got a lot easier to commit to it. It’s an added perk that my job is also my guilty pleasure, huh?

Tell us something about your newest release that is NOT in the blurb.

There are a lot of really funny stories in my book, I’d Rather Wear Pajamas. It’s hard to think about just one. What you’ll find in there is that I am the complete opposite of Martha Stewart. From cooking and baking disasters, to cutting off the circulation in my baby’s arm because my handmade dress was way too small for her, to sawing off a piece of build-your-own furniture in order to make it all fit together right, my inadequacies are real. But, they’re mine, and I fully own them. That’s the message. Fully own whatever package makes up you.
