My Review

It 's a novel short but very intense, so engaging that I read it in one sitting. The pace is fast, flowing and there is not a single boring page.
We become attached immediately to the young Indian man, protagonist of this story. He's a naive teenager, lost in love with a girl. To impress her and to respond to the provocations of her brother makes a reckless act and steal a luxury car. Obviously he gets caught and arrested. He doesn't end up in jail but is on probation. He must demonstrate that it was only the reckless act of a good guy. When it seems that everything is improving, his ingenuity deceives him again: is being blackmailed by the only people who should help him. He must make a bad action unless he wants go to jail. How will he go out from this agony?
This story is so well written and engaging that we can perceive perfectly  anguish and fear of Javvan, especially when he discovers that one can no longer trust anyone.
The characters in this story are divided into two distinct categories: the good ones and the bad ones. The good characters are lovable, kind, naive, honest. The bad ones are false, unscrupulous, willing to do anything to get the well-being and luxury. Also to destroy the life of an honest and naive boy.
It's the second book I read by this author, I hope to read her again, I like so much her stories very addictive.
If you love the genre YA Sleight of Hand  is a book to add to your list.

EXCERPT:

“Remember that house we did yesterday?”

“Yeah.”

“The wife phoned. Says they’re missing some stuff from the home
office.”

It’s enough to make me almost throw up. “Kevin, I was on the phone with
you. Whatever they say is missing—”

“Some money and a watch.”

“You know I didn’t take it. I don’t even remember seeing anything like
that.”

He watches me for a minute, then smiles. “Yeah, I know you didn’t.”
Kevin walks over, puts his hand on my shoulder.

“But the problem is your fingerprints are on the drawer handle,
aren’t they?”

“Yeah.” I twist in my chair so I can see his face, but he’s already moving
to stand in front of me. “But you can explain that. I mean, I was just doing
what you told me to.”

He leans against the desk, crosses his arms. “I could.”

The way he says it—like he knows something I don’t—makes my stomach
churn. “Kevin?”
