Caprice De Luca’s former client and now friend Ace Richland–an 80’s rock star–asks her for a favor. Can she quickly stage his girlfriend’s house to sell? Widow Alanna Goodwin, a transplanted Southern beauty, will be moving in with him! Immediately Caprice realizes Alanna’s southern charm can be turned on and off at will. Caprice agrees to stage Alanna’s Kismet antebellum-styled mansion for Ace’s sake. But she soon learns Alanna doesn’t have a genuine love for her cat Mirabelle and also uncovers a plot her new client is hatching to sabotage Ace’s comeback. However, before she can tell Ace, Alanna is murdered and Ace is the prime suspect.
As Caprice investigates, she learns Alanna had more secrets than pie safes. With her Cocker Spaniel Lady by her side, she tracks down clues and adopts Alanna’s cat. In the midst of some of her own family upheaval–her uncle has moved in with her parents–she finds herself with a dilemma. Grant Weatherford, her brother’s law partner, advises Ace and reveals more of his past to her. Seth Randolph, the doctor she dates, wants her to meet his family. She must choose between them.
Danger stalks Caprice. Will her refresher self-defense course save her life? Only if she keeps her wits about her and Lady by her side.
This book is a fun and compelling mystery that I enjoyed from beginning to end.
Caprice is a home stager, changes the design of houses to facilitate the sale. She agrees to work for Alanna, a widow millionaire, not very nice. She knows it will be a difficult task but it does to help her friend Ace, a famous rock star and newly boyfriend of her client: they want to move in together so she has to sell her house. During the party to show the new look of house, however, notes some very bad attitudes of Alanna, she even locked the cat in the closet. She would like to warn her friend but doesn't have time: Alanna is found dead and Ace is the prime suspect. Caprice will try to find the real murderess and save Ace. Who could have killed her? What Alanna was hiding? Caprice also has a great personal problem to solve: those who love between Grant and Seth?
Caprice is a great character is funny, intelligent, a loyal friend and a lover of animals. I really like her family, a classic Italian family: they are all so united and ready to help, perhaps a bit pushy and noisy but I'd love to be part of them. There are also many and adorable animals in this book: Lady and Sophie, Caprice's dog and cat, Mirabella, Alanna's cat that Caprice take after her death and many others.
It's the fourth book in the series "Caprice De Luca Mystery", but you do not have to have read the others to enjoy this one. I can't wait to read the first three in the waiting for the next book, scheduled for March.
The story was easy to read, fun, with likeable and realistic character, a well-developed plot, some twists and enough romance.
I recommend it to those who love the cozy mystery, especially those with animals.
I received an advance reader edition of this book from Kensington via Netgalley for the purpose of providing an honest review
