My Review:

It 's a contemporary novel romantic, cool, funny, set in the world of electoral campaigns.
Lucy Montgomery is trying to recover from a big disappointment in love: the man with whom she had decided to spend the rest of her life has left her alone on altar. She devotes herself entirely to work and trying to open a public relations agency. She wants to do it alone, doesn't want to be helped by her grandfather, a very important politician. But it is not easy to forget her surmame, unfortunately all consider her according to her family and not to her capacity. During a party at her grandfather's home knows Anderson Adams, a candidate in the next election. The man is immediately attracted by the beauty and freshness of the girl. But he can not follow his instincts, must safeguard his reputation. It is not easy, however, resist and eventually both to get into trouble.
The plot and the characters are well developed. Lucy is a girl full of resources, simple, naive but very determined, Anderson is a charming man, sexy but also very kind and considerate. They're really a beautiful couple.
It's the first book I read of this series (The Rose Legacy): it is the third but can be classified as stand-alone.
It's a novel light, likeable and entertaining, ideal beach reading.
Highly recommended to those who love romance

EXCERPT:

Anderson took her hand in his and began walking in the direction they had been going. “There is a small Italian restaurant in two blocks. Are you hungry?”

She smiled at him, saying, “Yes. I was glad I hadn’t eaten anything tonight when we took the helicopter ride.”

He needed to focus on his campaign and he could already tell that she would be a huge distraction. Everything about her fascinated him. The small restaurant had a handful of tables open and the maître d’ greeted him warmly and guided them back to a small, private alcove.

He often came to the restaurant with his father when they wanted discuss politics or business.

He told her, “The menu is in Italian, so let me know if you need help with the translation.”

She glanced up at him. “I’m Italian on my mother’s side and can speak the language.”

“ Si, the nickname Bella.”

“ Parli italiano?”

“ Si, my mother’s family as well. I spent most summers there.”

Lucia had put her menu down. “You must miss her. I heard she passed only a few weeks ago.”

He hated when others mentioned her death, but somehow Lucia had been tactful enough that he hadn’t felt disturbed by her words. “I had known for a long time that her heart was weak. But it was rough having to say goodbye to her.

“I’m sorry, Anderson.”

He picked up the menu and tried to dispel the thickening grief threatening to overtake him. “Let’s order before they close the kitchen.”

“I’m in the mood for a simple dish of pasta with Bolognese sauce.”

“My favorite dish is the Orecchiette in a Spicy Garlic and Olive Oil Sauce. Would you like to choose a wine?”

The waiter returned with bread. He poured olive oil on a plate and drizzled balsamic vinegar on it. He recited the specials in Italian.

Looking at Lucia, he waited for her order. Smiling at her ease with the language, he responded in Italian and then politely took Anderson’s order.

She met his gaze. “You are more Italian than the campaign is presenting.”

“My mother came over as a young girl, but my father’s family has been here for generations. It is something I hadn’t considered in terms of campaigning, but everything has happened so quickly.”

He wanted her. She was beautiful and looked at him with a warmth that he couldn’t easily dismiss. When she had spoken in Italian to the waiter, he could feel his blood heat. What was it about her that attracted him so much?

“Brian had mentioned that you were recently…” His mind tried to search for the right words.

“Left at the altar? Yes, it’s true.” He noticed she glanced away.

He decided to push further. “It seems rather odd, Bella. You are everything a man could hope for. Why did that happen to you?”

She tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. “Why did it happen? In hindsight, there were signs, but at the time I overlooked them. He began working late and I made excuses for him. I thought he was nervous about getting married and needed time to himself. But I never questioned him.”

“Why didn’t you? You didn’t want to know the truth?” He was speaking from his own experience. He had been in a destructive relationship and, instead of questioning her, he simply gave her space. He would never make that mistake again.

“I thought I knew the truth. We had been together for six years. I had met him in college and he had always been loyal and supportive.”

The waiter appeared and served the merlot Lucia had selected.

“So why did it happen?” He should stop questioning her; he had no right to know the answer.
