Review & Giveaway: Eighty and Out by Kim Cano

Traumatized by visits to the nursing home to see their elderly aunt, Louise and her sister Jeannie made a youthful pact to not live past age eighty. Was it a silly childhood idea, or were they wise beyond their years? Most importantly, will they go through with it when the time comes?

Eighty and Out Editorial Review: “An emotionally-charged women’s fiction novel about the bond between sisters, friendship, and fate, Eighty and Out will have you deliberating your destiny.” ~ Bestselling author Deborah Brown

My Review

It 's an amazing book, full of emotions, especially the last part is very touching. But there are several scenes where you laugh out loud, other where there is indignant in particular for some acts of racism. It 's really hard to put down after it started. It's so real and realistic that anyone can empathize with the life of Lou, shares her doubts, her fears, her dreams, her hopes.
After a visit to a sick aunt hospitalized in a nursing home, two sisters  make a pact: she haven't to live past age eighty, but in the life is not always possible decide and over the years it is easy to change your mind. We will see Lou and her sister Jeannie grow, become two women and deal with many difficulties encountered in the life.
I can understand very well what this two girls may have tried in the nursing home: I had to see two grandparents suffer so much. The thought of no longer being the masters of our brain is something that is really scary. When you get at the moment you can not always decide: maybe when we realize our head is already gone.  My great-grandmother was sick for more than ten years and lived with my grandfather, nursing homes did not exist then. My grandfather has suffered so much that he always said if I realize it I shoot. A wrong surgical operation to the head and he became like his mother without realizing it....
It 's really good written, the style of the author is very addictive with a fast pace and precise and detailed descriptions.
Highly recommended
