Synopsis
In 1851, Cecilia Paring has serious reservations about marrying her fiancé, Devin Montlake. Gone is the boy who could capture her heart with a word or a glance and in his place is a man who has made it clear that to be a proper barrister’s wife, the exciting and impulsive Cecilia must change as well.
Although Devin Montlake loves his orderly life as a barrister, he’s determined to follow his roadmap to achieve his goal of becoming a judge. His biggest obstacle seems to be convincing his headstrong fiancée to fulfill her social obligations with a modicum of propriety.
But when the jewelry collection belonging to Cecilia’s family is stolen the night before it is to be auctioned off and Devin is framed for the crime, he discovers that following his much-loved rules won’t solve this particular problem. He’ll need the inventiveness of his irrepressible fiancée to catch the thief.
My Review
It 's a historical romance short but likeable.
It takes place all in the space of one evening in London in 1851. Cecilia and Devin are engaged and will be married in a month. She has always been in love with him but now has doubts: he is a barrister and hopes to become a judge but she doesn't know how behaves and acts a barrister's wife. Cecilia's parents have organized an auction with the jewels of their family to buy a house in Cannes and to give a dowry to their daughters. But some jewels are stolen and is seriously wounded a security guard. The agent in charge of the investigations had already met Devin: the young lawyer had tried to arrest him rightly but the policeman had claimed his knowledge and had come out a winner. To take revenge blames Devin of theft. The two young lovers join forces to find the real thief.
The two main characters are lovable: they love very much, can not imagine their lives without each other but are afraid of their differences and have doubts if their relationship will work. Cecilia is bright, lively but a bit eccentric and disorganized. Devin loves her very much but he is afraid that the other wives of barrister exclude her. He recommends her a course of manners. She is hurt, she thinks he does not love her for who she is. Very nice Evangeline, Cecilia's sister.
It 's very sweet to see how their love will grow addressing this adventure together and solving the mystery of the theft.
It 's a romatic suspense and historical fiction, compelling and engaging
